A Dark Night of the Soul is a process that happens periodically, and cyclically to all intuitives, soulful and conscious people. It seems to be amplified for those of us who are spiritual coaches, healers and teachers, because we rely on our intuition on the daily for, well everything.

The Dark Night of the Soul is...

... that time in between when the Phoenix bursts into ashes and rises up again

... a return to the cauldron of creation

... a step into the Void

... an experience in the belly of the goddess

... the time it takes to journey from "what was" to "what will be"

The Dark Night of the Soul does not feel good in our 3D experience. Even though you've been praying for an upgrade, for an opening of your intuition, for a deepening of your communication with the divine... you're likely not well prepared for this journey into the unknown where up is down and everything goes tumbly.

You know something good will come out of this. But it doesn't mean that the changes and transformation feel good along the way. Why? Because it involves a grieving process of your old identity; a shedding of who you thought you were; a releasing of old relationships that don't uplift you; a deep questioning of your value; a strengthening of your faith through fire.

A Dark Night of the Soul is different than depression or deep sadness. It's different than grief. The Dark Night feels very confusing because you know that you're otherwise healthy, but all your spiritual tools don't seem to work anymore. It brings deep doubt about your intuitive abilities. Abandonment issues can be triggered. You might just think that you need to work a little harder at meditation, or go on an other spiritual quest, or fill your life with more work to compensate the lack of feeling/sensing your intuition and team of spiritual helpers.

It's a contraction of energy that foreshadows the birth of a new sense of self, a new project, and deepened intuitive and healing skills. After the contraction comes the push and the expansion... And it can be scary, confusing and hard to navigate this darkness on our own.

It can last a few days, a few months... a year or more. There's no set time, and it's very frustrating because you're wondering when this storm shall pass and when you can get on being your intuitive, magical self again.

The first time I was very conscious of going through a Dark Night of the Soul was when I returned from a spiritual experience at The Casa in Brazil, in 2011. At the time, I was still new at my Reiki practice and I was still working for the Federal Government. I knew that "one day" I wanted to leave that job and start my own business, but I had no concrete plan of action. I had started taking a few clients, and teaching some classes on intuition development. I could strongly feel the energy flowing through me and through my hands. My clients were experiencing rapid healing. I could sense and see spirits. I was sure that a visit to The Casa would amplify these intuitive and healing skills -- and it did, but not right away.

First, it felt like everything, all my skills, were wiped out. That was really scary. I felt heavy, like in a fog. There was some transformation going on under the surface that I could not explain -- and that was scary too. I had felt such bliss during the meditation and spiritual initiations. I had felt such soulful expansion and miraculous events with each of my Reiki attunements, Akashic Record attunements, communing with the Divine... and it all of a sudden felt like it was taken away.

I've come to realize that this process is entirely natural and cyclical. My clients still feel the blessings of healing energy even when I don't ... and in fact find that it's stronger than before.

What I've been shown in meditations following my visit to The Casa is that we can compare our human body like a computer. Our beliefs, emotions and reactions are like a hard drive controlling our perception of our experience. During times of initiations and Dark Night of the Soul, it's like our old hard drive is taken out and replaced with a new upgrade. It takes time for the human consciousness to re-learn how to feel, to rewire beliefs, and to take new actions based on the new hardware program. It can take a while for your body to recalibrate and be able to hold the higher frequency, and you may experience headaches, tiredness, nausea and hot flashes in addition to the confusion. The longer you fight against your spiritual upgrade, the longer it will take for it to fully download and become active as your new reality.

Every spiritual initiation and vibrational upgrade comes with more responsibility for yourself and others. It comes with more karmic clarity and the need for healthier boundaries. As your abilities and intuitive skills increase, so does the need for healthy humility. One of the biggest hurdles is learning to work with your ego so that it supports you through your changes instead of sabotaging you in an effort to stay the same, to stay "like before".

Learn to surrender to your upgrade process. Find the healing and guidance you need to navigate your changes, and learn to operate from your higher vibrational perspectives.
